Is Haunted

Book One

The Delusion

“And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.”

2 Thessalonians 2:11
Oil painting from inside a dark earthen hole looking up, glowing hands reaching toward the round gravel rimmed opening, two small beings of white light leaning over its near edge watching the fall

I was born haunted. Something has been with me since before I had an avatar to reside in.

I remember choosing this life. I remember the wheel it spun on, and the two tall beings of light that walked me to it, and what the two of them said to me as I fell, both at once, in one voice. I've carried that memory for over fifty years and told almost nobody. It opens the first book.

I grew up in houses where things happened. A rented farmhouse on a dirt road south of Vernon, where my mother woke on the couch with something standing over her, and where I screamed through whole nights at what I saw whether my eyes were open or closed. And a living room in Quesnel where, on Christmas morning 1977, my little brother and I watched something come out of the wood paneling and speak to us. Twice. We went decades without ever talking about it. When we finally did, once, he said yes, it happened, and he didn't want to say any more than that. He's gone now. So this is my telling of it.

Oil painting of two small boys seen from behind, the younger on the left, in a dim 1970s living room with the Christmas tree beside them, watching an image of the Good Shepherd with a lamb drawn in glowing gold lines surface out of the wood paneled wall
Christmas morning, 1977. It came out of the wall.

The Delusion is the first of three books, and it runs from before my birth to eighteen years old. It is true the way these things are true. I was there. I wrote down what I remember. You can decide what to call it.

It's being written now. When it's ready, you'll be able to get it right here.

The Comic

The books are becoming a comic too. Shortened and visual, built from the moments a stranger couldn't look away from: the wheel, the fall, the farmhouse, the Christmas wall. And alongside those, new stories from the same world.

It's early days. Scripts first, art after. It will show up here the moment there's something worth showing.

Oil painting of a three story farmhouse up on a hill at night, one window lit amber, a dirt road below, and a faded red barn, chicken coop and pig pen on the low ground near a small dark lake
The farmhouse south of Vernon, and the barn across the road. One window was always awake.
About the teller

Who is writing this down

I'm Chapter. I grew up between Vernon and Quesnel, and I kept all of this to myself for most of my life. Now it's going in the books, and the parts that need to be seen are going in the comic.

Everything here is true. Nothing gets softened, nothing gets dressed up, and nothing gets moved up the road. When there's something ready to read or to look at, this page is where it lands first.
